The University of British Columbia's International Scholars Program supports international students seeking their first undergraduate degree who combine outstanding academic achievement, leadership, community contribution and substantial financial need. Applications for September 2027 are open.
Who can apply Applicants must enter directly from an accredited secondary school, have graduated no earlier than June 2026, and meet UBC's general and degree-specific admission standards. They must demonstrate academic performance equivalent to all As, significant unmet financial need, and leadership and community contribution. International applicants will study on a Canadian study permit. There is no separate age limit stated on the checked programme page.
English admission requirements apply. IELTS is one accepted route, not compulsory for every applicant; the Vancouver standard lists IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no component below 6.0. Check the appropriate campus or Vantage requirements. Scholarship applicants must meet the applicable English requirement by 31 January 2027. Do not follow the later general English deadline. What the opportunity provides
Financial support is assessed against the applicant's resources and needs; there is no single published amount for the programme. Scholars also receive dedicated advising and development opportunities. UBC considers eligible applicants across its award categories rather than requiring them to select an award.
Required documents Prepare family-finance evidence, academic records, admission and English documentation as requested for the applicant's curriculum, and the scholarship application components. These include financial information, extracurricular achievements, awards and four essays of approximately 150–250 words. The nominator and teacher submit their own forms. Exact evidence formats and any programme-specific supplements must be confirmed in the portals. [S1, S5, S6] Selection process and timeline Admission application first; award application second. Both are due 15 November 2026 at 23:59 PST. Nomination and teacher-reference forms must be submitted before the award application can be completed. Admission documents and English requirements are due 31 January 2027. Some applicants may receive a January–March video-interview invitation with one week to respond. Award decisions are expected February–April.
Important conditions The nominator and teacher referee must be different people. Nomination limits are two students for Vancouver, including Vantage, and one for Okanagan per eligible nominating institution. Non-profit nomination is restricted to the circumstances described by UBC; membership in a community alone does not qualify an organisation to nominate.
Invite the nominator and teacher referee through the portal. Follow up; both forms must be submitted before final completion. Allow several days before 15 November.
Complete financial information, evidence, activities, and essays. Submit by 15 November, 23:59 PST.
Open step linkFollow UBC's document instructions and satisfy English requirements by 31 January 2027. If academic certificates are not yet available, follow UBC's specific instructions rather than inventing an exemption.
Open step linkMonitor email/spam; complete within one week of invitation.
Open step linkExcluded degrees: Nursing at either campus; Dental Science in Dental Hygiene; Medical Laboratory Science; Bachelor + Master of Management; dual degrees; joint degrees across UBC campuses or with other institutions. International Scholars applicants are not also considered for UBC's merit-based award route. Choose the appropriate route before applying.
Visa and immigration information UBC directs international students to apply for a study permit after accepting admission. Neither admission nor a scholarship is a visa guarantee. The checked scholarship sources do not confirm payment of visa fees or guaranteed immigration approval.
TripDoc verification notes Verified 6 October 2026 against UBC's programme page, current scholarship portal and admissions calendar. No fixed award value, universal four-year renewal promise, universal airfare, accommodation or insurance package is confirmed. The general admission page currently displays a CAD 173.25 international application fee but also contains older intake text; confirm the 2027 payable fee and any exemption in the admission portal. No “free application” claim is made. [S1, S2, S3, S5]
