Monash University Arts Graduate Research Scholarships 2027

The stipend and tuition scholarship are separate forms of support. International applicants should not describe themselves as fully funded unless both living-cost and tuition coverage are confirmed in their scholarship offer.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

• Meet the academic entry requirements for their chosen research degree
• Meet Monash’s English-language requirements
• Propose research that fits the Faculty of Arts’ research capacity
• Submit a research proposal
• Apply during an open scholarship round to receive scholarship consideration
• Demonstrate sufficient academic excellence, research experience and research potential to compete for funding

General PhD academic threshold

Monash generally requires one of the following:

• A relevant four-year bachelor’s degree containing a research thesis or project, with an honors-equivalent result of at least Second Class Honours Division A
• A relevant master’s degree containing a substantial research thesis or project, with the required honors-equivalent result Qualifications and relevant experience judged equivalent by the university

Individual programs may impose additional requirements.

General Master’s by Research threshold

Applicants generally need:

• A relevant four-year bachelor’s degree containing a research thesis or project, normally with at least a 65% honours-equivalent result
• A relevant master’s degree containing a substantial research component with the required result
• An equivalent combination of qualifications and relevant experience accepted by Monash

Meeting the minimum threshold does not guarantee admission or scholarship selection.

Supervisor requirement

A confirmed supervisor is not required before an Arts application is submitted.

However, applicants must:

• Name a preferred main supervisor in the application
• List three possible supervisors in the Arts research-proposal template

Applying without researching suitable supervisors would still be a weak strategy.

Required documents

Applicants should prepare:

• Passport or proof of citizenship
• Certified academic transcripts for all completed qualifications
• Degree certificates
• Explanation of the institution’s grading system
• English-language evidence
• Research proposal using the Arts template
• Academic CV of no more than two pages
• Contact details for at least two academic referees
• Certified translations for documents not issued in English
• Evidence supporting listed awards, publications or relevant experience, where applicable
• Portfolio or non-traditional research outputs for relevant creative or practice-based programmes

Do not put a photograph, date of birth or irrelevant personal details in the academic CV.

Application steps

1. Confirm whether you meet the PhD or Master’s by Research entry requirements.
2. Select the appropriate Faculty of Arts research programme.
3. Review the faculty’s research strengths.
4. Identify one preferred supervisor and at least two additional possible supervisors.
5. Develop the research proposal using the official Arts template.
6. Assemble the academic and English-language documents.
7. Create an account in the Monash My.App portal using a personal email address.
8. Select the appropriate campus, research degree and application type.
9. Request scholarship consideration during the open international round.
10. Upload all supporting documents and submit before the confirmed deadline.
11. Monitor email for requests for an interview or additional information.

Monash states that scholarship outcomes are generally released approximately six to ten weeks after the round closes.

Application fee

I cannot confirm from the graduate-research application instructions whether an application fee applies to this specific My.App research application. TripDoc should not label it “free application” without written confirmation from Monash.

Visa support

This is not employer-sponsored migration.

International students studying in Australia generally require a Student visa subclass 500. After accepting an eligible course offer and satisfying the enrolment requirements, Monash can issue a Confirmation of Enrolment needed for the visa application.

The Australian Department of Home Affairs—not Monash—decides the visa application. Admission or scholarship selection does not guarantee a visa.
