University of Melbourne Graduate Research Scholarships 2026/2027

Eligibility

To be considered, applicants must:

• Have applied for and meet the requirements for a graduate research degree at the University of Melbourne, or
• Be currently enrolled in a graduate research degree at the University of Melbourne

Selection Criteria

The scholarship is competitive. Stipend and fee offset scholarships are awarded based on academic merit. Applicants are scored and ranked using academic achievement from their last completed degree and research potential. Other factors may include relevant professional experience, publications, specialist qualifications, and creative outputs.

Required Documents

At minimum, international graduate research applicants need:

• Academic transcripts
• CV
• Final results and evidence of completion when available
• Two referee details
• Research proposal, if required by the course
• Writing sample, GRE/GMAT, or creative folio if required by the specific course
• Supervisor support evidence where required

The University says applicants need academic transcripts and a CV at minimum, while some courses may require a research proposal, creative folio, GRE/GMAT, or writing sample. It also says applicants normally need two referees and should contact referees before submitting.

Application Steps

1. Choose an eligible graduate research course.
2. Check the course entry requirements and English language requirements.
3. Check the course-specific application deadline.
4. Prepare academic transcripts, CV, referee details, and any course-specific documents.
5. Find a supervisor if your course or research area requires supervisor support. 6 Submit the graduate research course application.
6. Wait for confirmation that a scholarship application has been added to your record.
7. Track your course application through your University of Melbourne account.
8. For deferred or currently enrolled graduate research students only, submit the scholarship application form by 31 October.

The University says new applicants apply directly to the University and, if eligible, are automatically considered for a Graduate Research Scholarship.

Important Warnings

• This is not for ordinary coursework master’s programmes.
• New applicants should not treat the Formstack link as the main route unless they fall into the deferred/current student category.
• Scholarship consideration depends on applying by the correct course deadline.
• Some graduate schools assess applications in rounds, while others may assess throughout the year.
• A strong application may require supervisor support. The University says most courses and study areas require applicants to find an appropriate supervisor as part of the application process.
• If unsuccessful for a tuition fee-remission scholarship, international applicants may enter as full-fee-paying students.
• Do not trust third-party posts claiming a single universal deadline without checking your specific course page.

Important: I cannot confirm one universal deadline for every faculty/course because University of Melbourne says applicants should check the deadline for the specific graduate research course they are applying for.
