Funding
For eligible students studying in the United States, United Kingdom and Ireland, DAAD currently lists:
* €992 monthly scholarship
* Health insurance
* Accident insurance
* Personal liability insurance
* International travel subsidy
* €160 travel allowance for the RISE Germany meeting
For eligible students studying in Canada, the DAAD/Mitacs arrangement currently provides selected matched candidates with CAD 7,000 toward travel and living costs, with health, accident and liability insurance provided through DAAD.
Who Can Apply?
* Be undergraduate students enrolled in a four-year university/college programme in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom or Ireland.
* Study biology, chemistry, computer science, physics, earth sciences, engineering or a closely related field.
* Have completed at least two years of undergraduate study by the internship.
* Remain undergraduate students after completing their RISE Germany internship.
International students studying at eligible institutions may also apply. They must have studied at a US, Canadian, British or Irish university/college for more than 12 months by the application deadline.
Students graduating in spring or summer 2027 are not eligible for RISE Germany 2027 because undergraduate status must continue beyond the internship.

The academic referee must hold at least a PhD. Company recommendation letters are not accepted.
How to Apply
Applications are completed online through the official DAAD RISE Germany internship database.
Applicants first register for a DAAD ID and then access the RISE Germany database when the application round opens.
The 2027 application database will be available from October 15 to November 30, 2026.
Applicants search available projects in the database and submit applications for projects matching their academic background.
Selection
RISE Germany is competitive.
Internship providers rank applicants, and DAAD considers several factors including academic performance, motivation letters, recommendation letters, relevant practical experience and host rankings.
A strong application or eligibility does not guarantee selection.
Important Notes
RISE Germany is not open to undergraduate students studying at universities outside the United States, Canada, United Kingdom or Ireland.
Citizenship itself does not necessarily determine eligibility. International students studying at qualifying institutions may apply if they meet the programme's residency/study-duration conditions.
Do not pay anyone claiming they can secure a RISE placement. Applications are made through the official DAAD RISE application system.
RISE Germany should be described as a funded or scholarship-supported research internship rather than automatically claiming that every personal expense is fully funded.
